OPAL

OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning)
We are working with OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) to improve opportunities for physical activity, socialisation, cooperation, coordination, resilience, creativity, imagination and enjoyment through improved play.
We strongly believe that: “Play is freely chosen, personally directed, intrinsically motivated behaviour that actively engages the child. Play can be fun or serious. Through play children explore social, material and imaginary worlds and their relationship with them, elaborating all the while a flexible range of responses to the challenges they encounter. By playing, children learn and develop as individuals, and as members of the community.” (Children’s Play Council 2001).

How You Can Help Us

We are currently developing our ‘wheeled area’ and if you have anything with wheels on you can donate we would be very grateful e.g. suitcases, wheel barrows, pushchairs, prams and so on.

We are also developing a gravel digging area so do you have any gravel, diggers, toy dumper trucks, construction toys, pieces of wood please?

Our Play Charter

Child Voice

” I love all our new play areas.”

“The sand is my favourite area.”

” The tyres are good for building and using the crates to make it higher.”

I asked for a vets and we got it!”

Parent Voice

” My two children are  always excited to tell me what they have been playing during their breaktimes. They love all the different areas such as the tyres and crates, where they can build houses and climb or the role play area where they can dress up, perform or pretend they are at work. It’s good to know as a parent that they are still learning invaluable skills even when they are playing. We never had anything like this when I was at school.”
