Emergency Closures

Whenever possible the school will remain open. If the decision to close the school in an emergency is taken, parents will be informed as soon as possible. Announcements will be made on the local radio station, Sun FM; text messages will be sent to those parents subscribing to the school’s text messaging service and notices will be placed on the school fencing around the school perimeter.

The same arrangements will be made to inform parents of the school’s re-opening.

Medication

Several staff are able to administer prescribed medication under very strict guidelines. Please contact the school office for further details.

First Aid

First aid treatment is available from three fully trained members of staff who will seek further advice if necessary. In cases of more serious illness or accident at school parents will be informed as soon as possible. Please keep an ill child at home until well, or until your doctor says they can return to school. This is particularly important in the case of infectious diseases.

Personal Belongings

Your child is encouraged to take responsibility for their personal belongings. Everything your child brings into school – i.e. bags, clothes, books – should be clearly marked with your child’s name. If you forget to label a child’s possessions then we reserve the right to label their property, to avoid spending unnecessary time sorting out personal belongings during valuable teaching time.

We operate a lost property system which you are encouraged to call in and check.

School Outing & Charging Policy

The Governing Board has decided that, in general, charges will only ever be made for a school activity if this is the only way to guarantee the event takes place. This is most likely to apply to some trips and excursions, and parents are sometimes asked to make voluntary contributions towards the cost of the visit. We will always inform parents at the outset, and try to assist parents who would have genuine difficulty in paying. For further information please view our Charging and Remissions Policy in the School Policies section of our website.

Complaints

We hope to be able to resolve any complaints that parents may have. In the first instance complaints should normally be made to the Head Teacher, and in most cases we find that complaints can be dealt with successfully at this informal level. However, there are two formal routes that you can use if you wish to take the matter further.

If the complaint cannot be resolved it may be necessary for it to be considered by the Governing Board. The Clerk of the Governing Board, Mr William Harrison, can be contacted via email: william.harrison@togetherforchildren.org.uk.

If the complaint is not resolved by the Governing Board it may be referred to Children’s Services. If that fails the complaint can be referred to the Secretary of State at the Department of Education.

Further information can be found in the Complaints Policy in the School Policies section of our website.
